»The basis for the therapy is a comprehensive diagnosis based on a detailed initial consultation and a manual examination.« –  Facharzt Dr. med. Martin Ihle, Berlin

Diagnostics in orthopaedics

Every therapy starts with an exact diagnosis. Only by listening attentively to the detailed anamnesis interview can most symptoms be narrowed down very precisely. This facilitates the subsequent manual and instrumental examination.

Manual orthopaedic diagnosis

For my patients, I start the diagnosis with a classical orthopedic examination. Among other things, I pay attention to the gait pattern, the posture, the muscle relief as well as to malpositions of the joints and the pelvis.

I then carry out a manual medical examination in order to precisely locate joint blockages or disturbed myofascial structures with the touch of sensitive, trained hands. The elegance of this method lies in the fact that I can go directly from diagnostics to manual therapy.

Ultrasound and foot pressure measurement

The most important instrumental examination of the orthopaedist is ultrasound. This allows pathological changes or inflammation of muscular structures, tendon attachments and joint capsules to be visualized – radiation-free and in real time.

Another examination is the measurement of foot pressure. This not only determines whether someone needs insoles and how they need to be adjusted individually, but also the exact measurement of the pressure conditions of the sole of the foot. On the basis of the foot pressure measurement it is possible to correct malpositions of the feet and the resulting malpositions with the aid of so-called sensorimotor insoles, which can possibly cause complaints throughout the entire body.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) measurement Indicator of stress level

Stress also often contributes to orthopaedic complaints. Therefore, in many cases I consider it necessary to assess the vegetative nervous system as part of the diagnosis. Here the measurement of the heart rate variability (HRV measurement) offers itself. It can be measured in a short time in my practice and is non-invasive. This means that it does not interfere with the organs.

Patients get a clear visualization of the results so that they can easily understand the result. Based on the results, specific therapeutic measures can be derived later.
